About the Project

Jirgens Civil was engaged by Shoalhaven City Council for the construction of a critical infrastructure project – the IEMC Helipad and overflow carpark. This project involved delivering a 1300sqm reinforced concrete landing pad and a 58-bay car park. Both facilities were essential for supporting emergency services and operations at the Integrated Emergency Management Centre.

Client

Shoalhaven City Council

Location

Nowra, NSW

Scope

The project’s scope included:

  • Construction of a 1300sqm reinforced concrete helipad, designed to support heavy aircraft landings.
  • Installation of a 58-bay car park to service overflow traffic from the IEMC.
  • Implementation of a comprehensive stormwater drainage system to ensure site sustainability and longevity.
  • Engagement of geotechnical engineers to address unexpected subgrade issues.

Despite encountering unsuitable subgrade conditions early in the project, Jirgens Civil collaborated with geotechnical experts to adapt the design and ensure compliance with the required engineering standards. This proactive approach minimized potential delays and enabled the project to continue smoothly.

The project was handed over to the client well before the contracted completion date, a testament to Jirgens Civil’s commitment to quality and timely execution.
