About the Project

Jirgens Civil was engaged by Shoalhaven City Council to design and construct the Woolamia Boat Ramp Facility Wharf. This project required careful consideration of both commercial and public users, ensuring that the facility would meet a wide range of practical needs. The focus was on delivering a robust and functional structure while incorporating environmental features to support the local habitat.

Client

Shoalhaven City Council

Location

Woollamia, NSW

Scope

Jirgens Civil was tasked with designing a facility that balanced utility and environmental preservation. The project involved:

  • Design and Construction of a Class 2 50-tonne Load-Rated Precast Concrete Wharf: This major component provided a durable and heavy-duty platform capable of supporting significant loads for various types of vessels.
  • Installation of 125 meters of 3-meter Floating Pontoons: These pontoons enhance accessibility for a wide range of watercraft, facilitating both commercial and recreational use.
  • Design Collaboration with DPI Fisheries: Jirgens Civil worked alongside DPI Fisheries to develop a rock revetment wall, serving the dual purpose of providing habitat for the endangered Eastern Cod and creating an aesthetically pleasing shoreline.
  • Reconstruction of the Lower Boat Ramp: The lower section of the boat ramp was rebuilt using precast concrete panels. The toe of the ramp received a rock and mass-pour concrete treatment, improving its resilience and functionality.

Our Solution

The Woolamia Service Wharf & Maintenance Facility stands as a testament to Jirgens Civil’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that serves the needs of the community while also supporting environmental conservation. The innovative design of the rock revetment wall has provided critical habitat for the endangered Eastern Cod, demonstrating a successful integration of engineering and ecological considerations. The reconstructed boat ramp enhances user experience, offering improved access and durability for both commercial and public users.
